Partisan bunker in the Žadeikiai forest

Bunker coordinates: 55.99463, 24.44943

This is a historical place in Pasvalys region. The partisans of the Pasvalys region, led by Jonas Alenčikas-Dragūnas, hid in this underground building after the battles. The actual bunker was built here in 1945, destroyed during the battle, and rebuilt for the first time in 1997. Over time, the wooden logs cracked, the hatches collapsed, the bunks and the cross erected nearby in memory of the partisans rotted.

In 2019 on the initiative of the Pasvalys Regional Museum, after receiving financial support from the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Pasvalys District Municipality, the partisan bunker in the Žadeikiai forest was restored – rotten logs and bunks were replaced, tunnels were extended, a new memorial cross and an information stand were erected, and a partisan camp site was restored.
After going to the bunker in the Žadeikiai forest and sitting on the wooden bunks, you can read the underground press, get acquainted with the partisan oath, sing partisan songs, and open a prayer book…
